Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about working with a postpartum doula.
1. What is a postpartum doula?
A postpartum doula is a trained professional who offers physical, emotional, and informational support to families during the postpartum period, typically the first few weeks or months after birth. Our goal is to help you rest, recover, and bond with your baby in a supported and confident way.
2. What services do you provide?
Services may include:
Postpartum support whether that is daytime or overnight. Virtual postpartum support is also available!
Private Newborn 101 session for you and your partner. This usually takes place in the comfort of your own home or virtually, your preference!
Lactation support to assist mothers breastfeeding achieve their goals while overcoming challenges. Consultation can be in person or via video.
3. How is a postpartum doula different from a baby nurse or nanny?
While a baby nurse or nanny primarily focuses on the baby, a postpartum doula supports the whole family, especially the birthing parent. My role includes education, emotional care, and practical support to help you transition smoothly into your new role.
4. How long do postpartum doula services last?
It’s completely up to you and your family’s needs. Some families hire a doula for a few days, others for several weeks or months. We’ll work together to create a schedule that supports your recovery and goals.
5. Do you offer overnight support?
Yes! Overnight shifts are designed to help parents get longer stretches of sleep while I care for your baby, assist with nighttime feeds, and provide guidance on infant sleep patterns.
6. Can you help with breastfeeding or formula feeding?
Absolutely. I provide nonjudgmental support for all feeding choices. I can assist with latch techniques, bottle prep, and pumping.
7. Do you support families with multiples or special circumstances?
Yes, I have experience supporting families with twins and those facing unique challenges, such as postpartum mood disorders, NICU discharges, or C-section recovery.
8. How do I book your services?
You can start by reaching out via the inquiry form. I offer a free initial consultation to learn about your needs and see if we're a good fit. From there, we’ll discuss scheduling and put together a care plan that works for you.
9. What areas do you serve?
I currently serve families in Northeast Ohio. Virtual support packages are also available for clients outside this area!
